Staff Attorney - Natanya Pope-Sohel

Natanya Pope-Sohel joined the Torture Inquiry Relief Commission as Staff Attorney in January 2025. A former high school teacher turned lawyer, Natanya earned her law degree from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where she specialized in public interest law and legal technology and innovation. After law school, Natanya worked for Illinois Legal Aid Online as an automated documents developer and for Legal Aid Chicago managing a court-based help desk representing people impacted by the criminal legal system with expungement and sealing. Dedicated to leadership in the legal profession and access to justice, Natanya is a member of the Board of Directors of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Greater Chicago, the Public Interest Law Initiative’s Alumni Network Leadership Council, and Chicago Bar Foundation’s Justice Society.
